Beginner Friendly Guide to Playing Solitaire

Solitaire is one of the most popular card games in the world, and the best part is that you can enjoy it anytime whether you are online, on your phone, or playing with a real deck of cards. If you’re new to the game, don’t worry. Solitaire is simple, relaxing, and surprisingly addictive once you understand the basics.

What Is Solitaire?

Solitaire is a single player card game where your goal is to organize all the cards into four foundation piles sorted by suit and in ascending order from Ace to King. The game is easy to learn but still keeps your brain active by making you think a few steps ahead.

How to Set Up the Game

Start with a standard 52 card deck. Deal seven piles on the table. The first pile has one card, the second has two, the third has three, and so on. Only the top card on each pile stays face up. The rest form your draw pile. This setup is called the tableau and it’s where most of the action happens during the game.

How to Play the Game

Your job is to move cards around the tableau to uncover hidden cards and eventually place them into the foundation piles. You can stack cards on top of each other in descending order and by alternating colors. For example, you can place a red 6 on a black 7. Once you uncover an Ace, move it to a foundation pile and continue building on it.

When you cannot make any more moves on the tableau, start drawing from your draw pile to keep the game going. Sometimes you will reach a point where no moves are left and you lose, but that is part of the fun. Each new game is different and offers a fresh challenge.

Tips for Beginners

  • Try to reveal face down cards as early as possible
  • Move cards to the foundation only when it is helpful for the tableau
  • Always check for multiple move options before deciding
  • Be patient and think ahead

Why Solitaire Is Great for Beginners

Solitaire teaches patience, strategy, and planning without feeling complicated. It is easy enough for complete beginners yet enjoyable for experienced players. Whether you want to relax or sharpen your mind, Solitaire is a perfect choice for all ages.
